In January of 1975, Bruce Higgins lay close to death on a hospital bed in Wheeling, West Virginia, with a malfunctioning heart, a diseased liver, a rare blood disorder, a spleen that was enlarged eight times its normal size, and a bleeding ulcer. Bruce was told by his doctor that there was no medical cure available for him. The doctor also said he didn't expect Bruce to live past six months and that if he did anything strenuous, he would drop dead on the spot. Nevertheless, to the doctor's dismay, Bruce left the hospital after someone shared the love of Jesus and the hope of the Gospel with him.
